Getting started

What Tracer does

Tracer helps you keep track of where your working time goes. You can:

  • start a timer when you begin working and stop it when you are done
  • add or adjust time directly in a calendar
  • organise your time by client, project and task
  • see totals and charts of your logged hours
  • combine your logs with those of your colleagues to get a picture of the whole team
info

Everything you enter is stored in your own browser. Tracer does not send your time logs anywhere.

Before you start

There are two things to take care of before you log any time.

  1. Create your profile. Tracer needs to know who is logging time. Until you have a profile, most pages show a message asking you to open the user settings. See Setting up your profile.
  2. Understand where your data lives. Your data is kept in your browser's storage, and browsers can delete that storage. You should export a backup file regularly. See Your data and backups.

Quick start

  1. Open Tracer from the module overview in the NDX Platform.
  2. Go to User Settings in the sidebar, click Create profile, fill in your details (all are mandatory) and click Save changes.
  3. Go to Home, leave the timer set to No task and click Start. You are now tracking your time.
  4. Click the red stop button when you are done. Your time is logged and appears in the calendar.
  5. Go to Import / Export and click Export to file to make your first backup.

Once this works, you can set up clients, projects and tasks so your time is organised. That is described in Logging time.
