Logging time

A time log in Tracer is a block of time that can have notes and a task or project tied to it.

There are three ways to create one:

  • The timer on the Home page: click Start when you begin, Stop when you finish.
  • The calendar on the Home page: click an empty spot and fill in the times.
  • The Logs table: add a row and type in the details.

You can log time straight away without any setup. Logs without a task or project are shown as "No task".

To get useful totals, such as hours per client or per project, you set up the relevant configuration first. Tracer uses three levels: clients, projects and tasks. You can create these yourself, or load a set that someone on your team has prepared, called a shared configuration.

In this section

  • Recording time: using the timer, the calendar and the Logs table, and editing or deleting logs.
  • Clients, projects and tasks: setting up what you log time against, using labels, and loading shared configurations from your team.
